Carlos Gamarra

Dr. Carlos Gamarra is the Director of Clean Energy and Senior Research Scientist for HARC. He also serves as Director of the US DOE’s Onsite Generation TAP for the Southcentral Region.
He began his career in designing and constructing low and medium-voltage electrical facilities for industrial plants, power lines, and renewable power plants. Before switching to the research field in 2011, he worked as an energy engineer in optimizing industrial and commercial facilities.
Dr. Gamarra joined HARC in 2017 and is the principal investigator on three different DOE-funded projects. In 2023, he was recognized by the CHP Alliance with the Young Professional Award for his work on promoting the deployment of distributed generation technologies through the Department of Energy’s Southcentral CHP TAP. He is also the energy manager of HARC’s living lab, a LEED Platinum, NetZero and Energy Star certified office building.
His research explores the intersection of energy efficiency, distributed generation, community and industrial microgrids, district energy systems, artificial intelligence, clean software development, and energy planning processes and tools.
